This really depends upon the type of flooring in your home, how often you use your vacuum, what you expect in years of service, and how picky you are about your floors being as clean as possible. Let me say that there are no perfect vacuums out there and in my opinion they dont sell cleaning equipment at Wal-mart, most of us vacuum guys consider them disposable toys.
